Caleb | Senior [PRCA '11]

Caleb Herrera is a runner… he has the body for it too, lean, compact and fast. Caleb is another of my outstanding seniors from the class of 2011 over at Pusch Ridge Christian Academy. Caleb told me he wanted to explore his hispanic culture and heritage and try to put that on display in the photos. We chose specific locations to help us accomplish this goal. Caleb has been described as others as having an intense interest in clothing & shoes. He had a few pairs for this session that were alot of fun. Caleb is articulate, confident and very easy to talk to…. i liked him right away. Of course this isn’t my first time talking with, or getting to know Caleb… this has been a couple of years in the making now with him, as is often times the case with the PRCA’s seniors now that I’ve been around campus a couple three years. Next up for Caleb is attending Pima College right here in Tucson where he will likely run on some sort of scholarship with a possible transfer to Univ of Arizona after that. Thanks Caleb.. I had a blast working with you and having both your parents help !

Jacob Ewing is a film maker, and everyone around him knows it. Most of his friends & family have been cast in one of his film adventures at some point in time. Jacob spends so much time exploring this hobby-passion that he has a youtube channel dedicated to his films: http://www.youtube.com/user/jremoviebuff – you can see some of his stuff there. This exploration of Film, moviemaking and directing will serve him well in his next adventure that begins in the fall at the Univ of Arizona as he will pursue a degree in Film & Media Arts along side a minor in creative writing. Jacob describes himself as outgoing, thoughtful having a sense of visual sensability. Jacob’s dad was quick to describe him as creative, persuasive, witty & clever. Attending Pusch Ridge Christian Academy for all 4 years of high school, jacob counts his early involvement on the football team among some of his best memories, however his making of a short film “Hitmen” that involved several of his best friends for a school project is his best memory of his high school years. I hope years from now he can look back on that film and be excited for where he came from and where he’s come to. Jacob’s other interests are in keeping with his creative side, as he also enjoys music. Jacob took piano for over 7 years and is an iPod freak often found listening to his favorite “classic rock” music. “Jurassic Park” is noted as his favorite movie of all time – he says delivering one of the best movie going experieces of all time, to which i quickly agreed. Thanks for trusting me with your senior story Jacob, it was a blast getting to know your family, and wonderful having your mom along to help out. Wish you the best in the future and I’m excited to count you among the TWP Senior family.

Shelby | Senior [Sabino '11]

Shelby Wardlaw and GOLF go together like all sorts of famous combonations or pairs. Shelby played golf on the varsity team for Sabino High School starting with her freshman year, counting her time on the team as her greatest memories from High School. Being apart of the golf family gave her a place to belong at a new school. Pretty much her whole family golfs… and they live on a golf course. Shelby’s mom describes her as confident, laid back with a sense of humor, along with being very optimistic. At 5’9” tall Shelby tends to tower over others around her and this led her to participate in Pole Vaulting on her track & field team, something she just does for her enjoyment. Among her other interests.. Shelby has taken various dance disciplines from early ages and continues to enjoy dancing from time to time. Shelby is looking at lots of options for college next year looking to land a golf scholarship for whichever college she intends on taking her talents too. Looking forward to seeing you on the LPGA tour in the future Shelby. I know you will excell at whatever you do.. thanks for being so fun & energetic. Special thanks goes out to Andrea Ashbrook for helping myself and her best friend Shelby on this photoshoot.

Alex | Senior [IRHS '11]

My interview time with Alex Odenkirk was eye opening beyond my imagination. The shear amount of things that Alex has going on at any 1 given time is overwhelming just to listen to. Alex balances a rigorous school schedule filled with AP & advanced classes in which he isn’t just surviving – he’s thriving. Thriving to the tune of a #1 ranking in a senior class of over 450 students, yes that’s right Alex might be Ironwood Ridge’s Valedictorian this year if he finishes strong in all his classes. I know this much: I’d give alot to hear his speech if he does end up Valedictorian. In addition to the school schedule Alex balances life on a state championship track n field team, keeping in amazing shape and all the while working to secure his Eagle Scout rating with the boy scouts. Alex is a leader among leaders, standing tall above the rest it’s hard thinking of anything this young man can’t do. Alex is the product of an amazing family, my time with Alex actually started with a 1on1 chat with his dad. I learned so much about the household and family in which Alex and his 2 brothers are being raised it’s no wonder Alex is the success he is today. Dad described Alex as determined, confident & articulate – all of which are evident the moment you sit down with Alex. Alex’s dad has been highly involved as a scout leader in helping Alex and a host of other young men learn all kinds of life skills that will help them in adulthood. Counting Alex’s skill of time management among his most developed his dad believes this is one of the things the boy scouts has taught well. Beyond the juggling act of his life, Alex also plays the occassional computer game and reads for fun all the time. An intense love of American history and the civil war era Alex enjoys the outdoors, mountains and Tucson in general. Alex’s best memory of High School was arriving as a freshman and getting connected to the cross country / Track & Field team right away helped him find “his people” of common interest and like mind. Those relationships, friendships and bonds have created his most fond memories of high school. Next up for Alex is like going to the moon… sorta. While Alex has applied to Ivy league schools: Brown, Princeton & Harvard he’s also applied at some smaller lessor known schooles: “Clarmont-McKenna” or “St. Olaf” college. Alex still weighing all his options what is clear to me is that Alex will shoot for and hit the moon in whatever he does in life, sucess oozes from every area of his life and it’s exciting to be around. I’m not sure I’ve ever yet met a senior like Alex and suspect it will be a while til I do again. Alex.. I can only hope that we have started a friendship that will continue for years to come.

Kaitlin | Senior [PRCA '11]

One of my favorite parts of my job is when I get a chance to sit down with a senior, such as Kaitlin Kirchner, and I get to know them. I don’t take 10 mins, 30 or even an hour to do so. Often my consults with these Seniors are 3 hours long. I love what I learn as I do this process. For instance: I learned that Kaitlin is my hero ! I want my first born daughter Avalonne to be just like her when she’s 18. Kaitlin has a family, and maybe even more importantly, a dad that is present, interested, involved and “can be counted on” in Kaitlin’s own words. Her family: Mom, Dad and brother Carter has had a huge impact on who she is today. Kaitlin was born & raised in Tucson… her parents found out early she was Tenatious, driven, competetive.. she got involved in Martial Arts at the age of 7 and was a black belt by 9 years old. She even tested for her black belt in Korea (Yes the COUNTRY !). As Kaitlin grew up she gained interest in team sports playing Basketball & Volleyball for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy where she has attended all 4 years of high school. Interests include Snowboarding – which became a huge part of her story as we made the trek up to mt. Lemmon north of Tucson to even find some remaining early spring snow on the ground. While others would describe Kaitlin as joyous, loyal & independant it was dads description that was even more telling: “Compassionate, sensitive yet strong, she’s always been a perfect blend, a balance even” – says Dad. Kaitlin wants to take her talents to Colorado State Univ and become a RAM, where they’re will be plenty of opportunities to get out on the board and blow off some stress. Kaitlin plans on majoring in the Health Sciences program where she wants to work with kids in some capacity. Kaitlin has been very active in her church community at casas church in northwest Tucson. She’s been on countless missions trips, serving on leadership, building houses and such along with her position as chaplin at school overseeing the spiritual direction of the school from a students perspective. To top it off Kaitlin has shelved traditional dating focusing on so many other things in life – she is exactly who I want my daughter to be in 13 years. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks so much to the Kirchner family for adopting me for a dinner evening, the shoot date and so much more beyond that. I appreciate you all and already look forward to working with Carter in 2014.
